A Little About Us
Andra's Finds Tailoring began with the idea of taking every job as a new challenge and finding the best approach to alterations on the gown individually. Our owner began sewing from the age of nine, first learning basic sewing and working with patterns. At the age of fourteen, she was easily making skirts, working with zippers, and even mixing patterns to create her own custom dresses. She began to specialize in alterations in high school, working with simple hems and taking in street wear but she still had a desire to learn and grow! Before we officially opened in 2016, we often heard brides complain about the alterations industry- that most tailoring shops have a "one size fits all" approach to every gown, from filling huge cups with a massive amount of padding to bustling every dress with the same tucked under, french bustle. It was past time for something to change.
Our owner, Andra, sought out other alterations specialists in the industry to expand her own knowledge, working first with a tailor in Rossville, GA then settled on learning from another home based seamstress in Cleveland, TN. After several years of watching, learning, and growing with her mentor at Sew Cheerful, the time came to begin her own business with what she had "found" to be the best approaches to tailoring individual gowns!
Six months after we opened, we partnered with Ever After Bridal and Formal Wear to work with brides in the Tennessee Valley through their shops. We started small working on Casablanca, Maggie Sottero, and Stella York gowns and continued to learn new designers and gowns, working with brides of all shapes, sizes, and places (serving women from Rhode Island to Texas), and meeting brides in Ever After to pin their dresses. Word quickly spread of our level of excellence and we began to book weeks in advance. Prom girls, bridesmaids, mother of the brides, and of course, brides all found themselves in need of a reliable alterations specialist to tailor their gowns to perfection, so we began to grow!. In July of 2021 we hired on experienced and quirky seamstress, Bri to begin building a dream team of #sewingfairygodmothers. (Catch some of her personal projects on Instagram at @brimariesewing ). In January of 2022, we opened up an alterations boutique to provide clients with premier alterations services in a relaxed, professional and fun environment. Later that year, our newest #sewingfairygodmother, Alana joined our team. While she loves to read, her next favorite hobby is finding her brides the perfect fit! To this our team works with brides of all sizes shapes and backgrounds, and would love to help you find your fairytale fit!
On average, we book three weeks in advance and work with as many as six new brides each week but we're constantly growing! Our focus is excellence in a timely manner and thus we ask for brides to book their first appointment a minimum of eight weeks before their wedding day and a minimum of four weeks for any other formal wear alterations, in order to keep our timelines secure and deliver your completed item before the deadline. Therefore, we recommend brides call three to four months before their weddings to ensure appointment availability. Please note that although we partner with several local bridal shops, we are an independent business and appointments are on a first come, first serve basis.
With such a large need in the community, we are constantly looking for new alterations specialists to join our team. Be sure to click on our Careers tab to see if you would like to learn more about becoming a #sewingfairygodmother .
